Friends and colleagues describe me as being

Who am I ?

I am Kath and I would like to introduce myself.

I was born in a small village in West Yorkshire and growing up, my Dad worked in a coal mine and my Mum worked in a local grocery store. My sister and I attended the local school but I wasn’t much of a ‘scholar’ preferring the more practical lessons. I think the most memorable part of school is that I met my best friend there, and happily we continue to remain close still.

As soon as I left school I started an apprenticeship in hairdressing, which was where my interest in beauty came about. It was the mid 70’s and the hairdressers where I worked opened a beauty salon which was quite radical in those days. The girl that ran it was relaxed and her work atmosphere was always serene. During our breaks I would chat and get to know more, it was then that I decided that I wanted to follow in her footsteps.

But it was not until many years later, after having 2 children and separating from my first husband, that I decided it was time to do something for my own future. I enrolled at my local college and studied Beauty and Swedish Body Massage. From that point I have never looked back, I quickly realised my favourite subject was massage, and after receiving my first ever massage it confirmed that I wanted to make people feel as good as I did that day. Over the following years I have also become a Reiki Master, completed a meditation diploma which allows me to run meditation groups, studied Shinrin Yoku, and become seriously interested  in all forms of holistic and energy based therapies and qualified in some of these.

With experience of living and working in rural areas, I became a true believer that allowing time for yourself and the nature around you will enable you to better manage your work/family balance. It is with this belief that Spring Retreat came about.

My husband and I moved to North Yorkshire a few years ago, and we are blessed to live in an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty, Nidderdale. My husband and other family members created Spring Retreat within the grounds of our house.

In recent years I have worked in two prestigious hotel spas, with guests having very high expectation and satisfaction levels.  I am now pleased and excited to be able to offer the same high level of skill and professionalism to guests of Spring Retreat.

When you visit me as a guest, I will always be 100% focussed in making sure you feel welcomed and quite at home, and not just another ‘client’ visiting a faceless salon.

So with that said, you’ll find my way of working is unique and quite different from the norm. I hope everything is self explanatory on my website, and if you need more information please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
